The Story

A skin whisperer
for microbes.

From PhD → postdoc(s) → senior scientist at L'Oréal, I've chased one question my whole career: "why does skin & scalp microbiome do that?" — and then tried to flip the script with microbiome-powered actives.

"Decoding the secret lives of bacteria so skin and scalp can thrive."

Today I lead microbiome research projects in L'Oréal's Advanced Research division, taking ideas the whole way from a hypothesis to an active ingredient ready to live inside a product. I drive 2+ projects end-to-end, each with its own cross-functional team of 5–10 scientists spanning microbiology, bioinformatics, immunology and formulation.

Before L'Oréal, I was a self-confessed international lab hopper — Graz, Karolinska (Stockholm), CIRI (Lyon), Nottingham — working on skin microbiome, UV-radiation and immunity, and obtained an HDR (habilitation) in 2026.

Career

An international journey.

Dec 2022 — Present · Paris
Senior Scientist / Project Leader — Microbiome
L'Oréal · Advanced Research
Owning microbiome projects end-to-end: from the first hypothesis, through active-ingredient discovery, to candidates destined for product. Building cross-functional teams across microbiology, bioinformatics, immunology and formulation/clinical work.
Current role
Mar 2019 — Oct 2022 · Graz
Postdoctoral Scientist
Medical University of Graz
Bridging skin, sunlight and microbes — building the case that your skin's bacteria help shape how it responds to UV. Secured €800,000+ in competitive fellowships and grants; ran collaborations with Karolinska Institutet and CIRI Lyon.
Oct 2020 — Sep 2022 · Lyon
Senior Postdoctoral Researcher
CIRI — Centre International de Recherche en Infectiologie
Led skin immunology + microbiome research within the Immunology of Skin, Allergy and Vaccination group, using mouse models and advanced flow cytometry. Supervised PhD & Masters students.
Oct 2013 — Mar 2019 · Graz
PhD Researcher — Human Medicine
Medizinische Universität Graz
Where it all started: learning to ask, and answer, why skin behaves the way it does under UV. Built a broad toolkit across bioinformatics, histology, flow cytometry and clinical study methods.
Nov 2015 — Mar 2016 · Stockholm
Visiting Researcher — Germ-free Research
Karolinska Institutet
Studied the interference of skin microbiome in UV-induced immune suppression using germ-free mouse models. Obtained FELASA-B certification for animal work.
Nov 2012 — Oct 2013 · Nottingham
Research Student — Cancer Immunology
Nottingham Trent University · John van Geest Cancer Research Centre
Master's research where I cut my teeth in human immunology — isolating and characterizing regulatory T cells (Tregs) from human peripheral blood.
